Food safety has become a #1 concern for everyone these days. Not only do people want to know what is in the food they are eating, they want to know that their food is being handled and prepared safely by a conscientious staff in a clean environment.
What is FOODSAFE and who needs it?
FOODSAFE, Level 1 is designed for anyone who works in the food service, hospitality and care giving industries. Many employers in these fields require that any new staff have FOODSAFE. FOODSAFE is a program that helps food handlers prevent food borne illnesses (Food Poisoning). The goal of the FOODSAFE program is to protect the public’s health by educating anyone who handles food on how and why food poisonings occur and how to prevent them.
1. What is FOODSAFE Level 1 about?
Topics covered include:
- Introduction to how microbes cause food poisoning
- Safe methods of receiving, storing, cooking, cooling, reheating, cold-holding, hot-holding, thawing, and serving foods
- Personal hygiene
- Cleaning and sanitizing
- Preventing food-service worker injury
The all day course is taught using a combination of lecture, discussion, demonstrations, slides and videos. The last hour of the day includes a 50 question multiple-choice test.
FOODSAFE is a provincially recognized certificate program. Certificates are issued by the Provincial Health Authority and are registered with the British Columbia Centre for Disease. FOODSAFE is required by law. Provincial law requires that in establishments where food is prepared or beverages are served in British Columbia, the owner/operator must hold a FOODSAFE certificate. If the owner/operator is not on the premises, at least one person on shift must be FOODSAFE certified.
2. Why Choose Anne to teach your Corporate Class?
There are many options open to you for certifying your staff in FOODSAFE. Being an experienced Red Seal chef gives me the expertise to come into your establishment’s kitchens, work with the chefs and “talk their language”. I can then make an assessment of your location’s specific needs as it applies to FOODSAFE training. In the actual class I will refer to your particular standard operating procedures (SOP’s) and deliver a customized FOODSAFE course to your employees, thus making the whole process more relevant and meaningful to all who participate. Many companies use the one day class as a team building experience for their staff!
3. Mini Food Safety Refresher Classes
For those companies due to budget or time constraints, that want to have a “refresher” mini Food Safety class, these are a great idea. In less than 2 hours we can cover all of the key learning points from the FOODSAFE course. Please note that there is no certificate issued for this and it is not a substitute for the actual one day FOODSAFE course.
Many employers now require all of their staff to hold FOODSAFE certificates. Don’t wait! Now is the time to put your key staff through the FOODSAFE program!
“Anne, Thank you so much! It’s really amazing how successful we are with your course. Yours must be just the right formula!”
